The Wright brothers achieved the first controlled, sustained flight of a powered, heavier-than-air aircraft on December 17, 1903, in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. Piloted by Orville Wright, the Wright Flyer traveled 120 feet in 12 seconds at 10:35 a.m..
